Financial & Leadership Skills
Financial & Leadership Skills is designed to help youth see themselves as capable decision-makers-both with money and in life. We combine practical financial literacy with leadership development so young people don't just learn how to budget; they learn how to lead.
In the financial literacy sessions, youth work through real-world scenarios they recognize: stretching an allowance, choosing between wants and needs, planning for a school event, or figuring out how to save for something important. They practice building simple budgets, understanding bank accounts, and recognizing the true cost of debt. Activities are interactive-think small-group challenges, mock "store" experiences, and role-plays-so participants stay engaged and remember what they learn.
Alongside money management, we focus on youth leadership development. Through group projects, discussions, and reflection, participants practice speaking up, listening to others, and making decisions that affect a team. They learn how to run a basic meeting, share responsibilities, and handle setbacks without giving up. We intentionally create space for quieter youth and those from group homes to discover their voice in a supportive circle.
These workshops are especially powerful for teens who may not have had consistent guidance around finances or positive leadership examples. By pairing money skills with confidence-building, we help young people envision a future where they can manage their resources wisely and influence their communities in positive ways.
